Greetings to everyone watching this site and joining us for the first time
Firstly, a warm thanks to Kathy Matthews and Pieter Maree as well as Coenraad Maree for proposing that we start a petition. We did not take the decision lightly, but now that we have done it, we know it was the only avenue left to us.
THANK YOU ◊ We want to thank all of you for joining us in this appeal to the Government to improve the booking services at driver's licence testing centres.
OPEN INVITATION ◊ We want to invite everybody to share this space, to make it yours too and to tell everybody about it. You are very much part of a family.
We all belong to this family, after all. We are inter-dependant! We are all
living in South Africa. We all need to
move around the country. We all
need licences and would be really stuck if we did not have them! To be an independent adult is after all what every child hopes to become one day. It is our responsibility, as driving instructors to help the public to do that.
ONLINE AND GOING STRONG ◊ We have been online for two weeks now, and it has been an exciting, exhausting, stimulating, frustrating time. We are completely absorbed in what we are doing. We spend so much time in front of computers these days we will soon grow roots through our chairs!
TEETHING PROBLEMS ◊ As can be expected, we have had a few teething problems too. A virus stopped the first petition (myPetition) the same day that we sent our invitations to the site out.
Our wonderful webmaster (highly recommended) quickly, within an hour, solved the problem by signing us up with i-Petition.
The first people did not want to lose the petition rights (myPetition) and came back after sorting out the virus, and asked us to still user their website. They had done such a good job with the husky petition (Nearly 100,000 votes!) that we wanted to give them another chance.
Our webmaster suggested that we keep both in case one crashed again. Some people are a bit confused by that. Don't be! Just ask friends and family to sign one of them.
ANONYMOUS VOTES DON'T COUNT ◊ We have been questioned by journalists about duplications and anonymous votes. Apparently they don't count. May we suggest you put your Christian name down without the surname if reluctant to risk putting your full name in? Are some people afraid they will be victimised? Also, a remark is highly appreciated. It carries much more weight than an empty block.
WE LOVE YOUR VOTING-COMMENTS ◊ We get so excited when we see people responding and signing up and we love reading their comments because they are unsolicited remarks and some of them are priceless! These remarks confirms exactly what we are worried about! It is the fact that some people are deciding to go the illegal route, instead of struggling to get a legal licence.
SAY YOUR SAY AT AN SA ONLINE FORUM ◊ Please feel free to add your comments there (anonymous registration required to add dialogue, but you can view without registration). This is your chance to express yourself) Some of them accuse people who don't actually deserve the criticism, and it indicates how confused and distressed people are. Some people express desperation and they ask for our help. To visit the discussion forum,

WE WANT TO HELP YOU ◊ Really, we do! Believe me when I say that we are doing everything in our power to change things urgently. The quicker people all add their names to the petition, the quicker it will become very clear to the authorities that this situation has to be addressed urgently, as in yesterday!
As we have shown on our website, we have done everything we could have done (short of becoming "Driving Instructors behaving Badly") to ask the authorities to give us more examiners, more testing centres, an efficient way of booking and more...
We see people are glad that they have a chance (at last!) to express their frustrations.
FRONT PAGE, PRETORIA NEWS ◊ We made front page news in Pretoria News on Friday the 10th of August, and a HUMUNGOUS article in the Beeld on the 11th of August. See Articles 19 and 19A (To view these articles,
click here). Many thanks to the media!
Updates on our website
Our domain name now resides with an South African service provider. We noticed that the response time wasn't all that good.
Information about the petition
The petitions needs more votes. We have had a healthy response from people but the word is still not out there. There really are a lot of people who are unable to get bookings and if all of those people were to petition, we would have more than thousands of votes.
